"Our Founder and board member Robert M. Pennoyer died on August 13, 2023 at the age of 98. He created the foundation in 2007 at the behest of his client Anne Bullitt with the proceeds of her estate. He has guided us from the beginning with a wise but gentle hand. He brought decades of experience as a lawyer and board member for several other foundations including the Rockefeller Foundation and the John Merck Fund. We will miss his sound judgement, generosity and humility. His values, empathy for the less advantaged, love of country and democracy, and women’s rights are instilled in the Foundation and will inform our work going forward."
